Its objective is to provide opportunities for children to be inspired by nature and woodland in a safe and nurturing setting, gaining an understanding of, and joy for the natural world. Forest School promotes growth of individuals in terms of confidence, independence and self-esteem by encouraging ‘exploration’ through fun, achievable tasks in a natural environment. It facilitates curiosity through child centred learning and positive experiences over a sustained period, allowing space to develop levels of comfort and understanding. It aims to empower children to make sound judgements and choices about risk through routines which are embedded in safe practice and which use real tools and fire. Forest School fosters self-awareness, emotional, social and physical wellbeing that has a great positive impact on the lives and futures of children.
