Non-fiction - On The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin (Sabina Radeva adaptation)

Children read an adaptation of Charles Darwin’s famous treatise linked to their ‘Out of Africa’ science topic. The children read a variety of scientific reports related to animal adaptation, focussing on formal and technical language.

Grammar focus (including SATs revision):

SATS revision to be dictated by QLA from March test paper, but will include the following: active/passive sentences; verb tenses (progressive/perfect forms); levels of formality.

Write a scientific report

The children write their own scientific report about an imaginary animal that has adapted to its environment. Pictorial representations of Flanimals are used as inspiration.

Throw with greater control accuracy and efficiency with the use of developed techniques, self and peer feedback. Perform a range of jumps showing power, control and consistency at both take-off and landing.
